From Sept 2017 – July 2018, we are working with the Voices Foundation, Charanga and Tall Ships to present a year long programme of singing opportunities building up to school choir performances as the Tall Ships arrive in Sunderland on Wednesday 11th July.

The Voices Foundation and Charanga are currently curating a Song Bank of approx. 16 songs, with a range of resources, advice and tips for health singing for young people, conducting skills and how songs can be used across the curriculum. This will be uploaded onto Charanga, available for every school in Sunderland, and will be launched in September 2017.

We are holding termly singing sessions for every school, to learn the songs and learn how to use the online resource.

NYMAZ (North Yorkshire Music Action Zone) will film the performances to be streamed online for every school to take part from their classrooms if they can’t attend the event. Our aim is to break a world record to have the most number of children singing a song at the same time – so do keep looking at our website for more information.

Alongside this, 20 schools are taking part in a choral leadership programme, which will consist of twilight sessions in the Autumn and Spring terms, lead by Voices Foundation practitioners, to then observe and mentor choir leaders in their schools.

Our events calendar will list all the dates – but come along to our Songs for Sunderland launch on Friday 15th September, for teachers, and/or 16th September for teachers and practitioners.
